ANNA EMILSSON was born in 1978 and grew up on the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea. She had an early interest in music and played piano and flute from the age of ten. Soon singing became her main form of expression and she became interested in Swedish folk music and solo singing. In 1997 she enrolled at the University of Gothenburg School of Music and Education where she specialized in classical as well as folk music. Since 1999 she studies singing for Lena Susanne Norin in Stockholm and from 2003 for Bo Urban Nordgren in Gothenburg. She has also sung in masterclasses for Emma Kirkby at the Nordic Baroque Festival in 2001 and 2003. Anna's first opera appearance was as Cléone in Marc-Antoine Charpentier's "Medée", a production by the free theatre group "Utomjordiska" in Gothenburg and this was followed by "Klonen, a baroque music theatre play" (as Karen) by the same company. Other important productions include Antonio Vivaldi's "Juditha Triumphans" (as Abra) with "Camerata Mandolino Classico" and Hallman/Ribbegren's musical based on the life of Evert Taube (as Astri) with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra. Anna is frequently engaged as a solo artist in different contexts and works regularly with the pianist Alma Hedlund with whom she performs musical and dramatized folk lyrics.
