Boccherini's chamber music provides an endless joy to the ear and heart,
nowhere more so than in his Guitar Quintets. The major
six of these, G445-450, are stunningly performed by guitarist Jacob Lindberg
and members of the Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble on this new BIS set….Highly recommended.
In Tune
CD Classica
This is the first recording of the six Quintets with guitar by Luigi Boccherini (G.445-50) using a double strung instrument. The cover shows Jakob Lindberg's own guitar by Juan Pages built in Cadiz 1810. These works also exist in other forms; the first three for string quartet and fortepiano while the other three are arrangements of various movements from string quintets with two celli, string quartets and string quartets with flute and oboe. These versions have all been carefully consulted and some amendments have been made to the versions from the Washington manuscripts in terms of dynamics, expression markings and also actual notes.
